Steel sheet piles must be removed promptly after use to allow subsequent construction work to proceed. Let's discuss the precautions for removing steel sheet piles.
1. For closed steel sheet pile walls, the starting point for removal should be greater than the five corner piles.
2. The starting point for removal can be determined based on the pile sinking situation, and the skipping method can be used if necessary. Piles should be removed in the reverse order from the initial driving sequence.
3. During steel sheet pile removal, a vibratory hammer can be used to vibrate the pile's locking mechanism to reduce soil adhesion, then vibrate while removing. For difficult-to-remove steel sheet piles, first use a diesel hammer to vibrate the pile downward 100 to 300 mm, then alternately vibrate with a vibratory hammer.
4. If a steel sheet pile is difficult to remove, the following measures can be taken: Use a vibratory hammer to strike again to overcome resistance caused by clay and rust between the edges; remove the pile in the reverse order of the sheet pile; and compact the soil on the side of the sheet pile bearing earth pressure to facilitate smooth removal of the original sheet pile.
