How to Use Larsen Steel Sheet Piles?

Larsen steel sheet pile cofferdams are not only environmentally friendly but also waterproof, fast to construct, and inexpensive. To better utilize Larsen steel sheet piles, let's explore their use.

Larsen Steel Sheet Piling Installation Methods

1. Single-Pile Method

Start at the corner of the wall and install sheet piles one by one (or in groups of two) until the project is complete.

Advantages

The installation process is simple, fast, and requires no auxiliary support.

Disadvantages

Sheet piles can easily deflect, and accumulated errors are difficult to correct. Therefore, the single-pile method is only suitable for situations where the sheet pile wall requirements are not high and the pile length is short (e.g., less than 10 meters). A relatively mature steel sheet pile market is currently available overseas.

2. Screen Punch Method

Ten to twenty sheet piles are inserted in a row onto a guide frame, forming a screen, and then driven in batches. First, steel sheet piles are driven to the desired elevation or depth at both ends of the screen wall, forming positioning piles. Then, in the center, the piles are divided into trapezoidal patterns, 1/3 and 1/2 the height.

Advantages of the Screen Drilling Method:

It reduces the accumulation of inclination errors, prevents excessive inclination, and facilitates sealing and closing, ensuring the construction volume of the sheet pile wall.

Disadvantages of the Screen Drilling Method:

The free-standing height of the piles is relatively high, so attention should be paid to ensuring stability and smooth construction during installation. As for its performance, it must meet these requirements.

How are steel sheet piles driven?

During piling, the initial and second steel sheet piles must be accurately positioned and positioned. These serve as template guides, and measurements should generally be taken after each hole is drilled. For corner and sealing purposes, special-shaped sheet piles, connectors, the straddle method, and axis adjustment methods can be used. To ensure quiet construction, important pipelines and high-voltage cables must be carefully inspected and protected within the work area. Steel sheet piles must be used throughout the construction. Cross-sections may be curved, trough, or Z-shaped.

How should steel sheet piles be removed?

When backfilling of the foundation pit is stopped during steel sheet pile construction, the steel sheet piles should be removed so they can be repaired and reused. Before shoveling, the order, timing, and hole preparation for removing the steel sheet piles should be carefully considered. For sheet pile extraction, static, vibration, and impact pulling methods are used to mitigate the resistance to pullout, depending on the extraction machinery used. During the removal operation, important pipelines and high-voltage cables within the work area must be carefully inspected and protected. The locking head of the steel sheet piles should be coated with cream.
