How to Address Steel Sheet Pile Leakage?

Steel sheet piles are commonly used in foundation construction and are widely used, especially in ground engineering and environmental projects. Currently, global demand for steel sheet piles is approximately 3 million tons annually. In Asia alone, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Taiwan each demand over 50,000 tons, while Japan and South Korea demand is around 500,000 tons. However, leakage during construction can impact progress and delay projects. Below, we will discuss the stress factors and leakage in the steel industry, as well as how to effectively address the impact of leakage during steel sheet pile construction.

 

I'd like to know about leakage in our preferred steel sheet piles: In construction pits, leakage occurs in corners and seams above half the depth, and depending on the soil quality, sand excavation may also occur.

There are three possible causes for this:

1. During piling, the locking between steel sheet piles does not meet requirements, potentially leading to insertion errors due to inaccurate construction.

 

2. Vertical sheet piles may not lock properly due to non-compliant installation.

 

3. Poor locking of the steel sheet piles during construction. In the case of second-hand steel sheet piles, excessive old sheet piles may fail to be corrected. Corner piles are a special type of corner pile that can deform after welding, leading to leakage.

 

How to prevent this problem:

1. To ensure vertical driving of steel sheet piles, cofferdam supports must be in place after the wall is completed.

 

2. To ensure vertical hammering of steel sheet piles with a theodolite, good control is required when driving them into the ground.

 

3. Deformed sheet piles should be corrected on a straightening platform. Bent sheet piles can be corrected using the red-hot or pressure-resistant correction methods.

 

4. Place a tray inside the steel sheet pile to prevent displacement of the centerline of the sheet pile lock.
