AZ steel sheet piles are available in two types: Larssen and Hoesch. They are provided by the customer based on the required load-bearing capacity.
The web structure typically consists of two back-to-back channel or I-beam sections, providing the required stiffness between the tie rods. Types AZ26, AZ26-700, AZ18-700, AZ14-770, and AZ24-700 are commonly used as HZ steel sheet piles. Types AZ36-700N, AZ38-700N, AZ46, AZ48, and AZ50 are produced by Arcelor and Arcelormittal.
When stacking piles on site, it is recommended that they be placed on timber or steel spacers to be secured with lashings or chains. The Ras Al Khaimah Port Development Project is located in Ras Al Khaimah, UAE. The existing port will be expanded through land reclamation, with a perimeter wall constructed behind the permanent sheet pile wall.
It is recommended that AZ sheet pile bundles be stacked no more than four layers high to prevent excessive loading on the lower layer. All of these items are designed to comply with relevant British Standards. Spacers should be evenly spaced along the length of the pile, up to a maximum of four meters apart, and overhangs are limited to 1.5 meters. The recommended design involves connecting AZ sheet pile walls with smaller sheet pile anchor walls.
We recommend using Larrssen sheet piles as prefabricated sheet piles for the main and anchor walls. The bending moment to be borne by the beam section is then determined by 10. Ideally, the pile bundles should be staggered in plan—as shown in the diagram above, AZ sheet piles provide stability. We also cover the calculation of the sheet pile modulus and connection details for the sheet piles and anchor systems.
Types AZ36-700N, AZ38-700N, AZ46, AZ48, and AZ50 are manufactured by Arcelor and Arcelormittal.
