Intermediate lightweight steel sheet piles (MSZ17-406) can be used to prevent erosion and protect the coast. When personnel are working or passing beneath the scaffolding, a barrier, mesh, or similar material should be placed between the toeboard and the top rail (MSZ17-375). For normal freshwater applications, the assembly will be provided with galvanized or aluminized steel Type 2 stringers and spacers, as specified. Z-type cold-formed steel sheet piles (MSZ17-312 and MSZ17-340) should be designed to withstand four times the rated load of MSZ17-350. At a minimum, an impermeable cap should be provided on the slope, and a continuous cap/drain embedded in the slope should be constructed at the toe/top of the wall.

The relatively lightweight steel boxes can be installed off-site and then craned into place. Alternatively, they can be assembled on-site without the need for heavy equipment. Installation methods vary, depending on the contractor's skill and imagination when overcoming difficult or restrictive installation conditions. Mega Zee 17 steel sheet piles must be at least as strong as MSZ17-375 and MSZ17-406 and constructed with ¾-inch plywood equivalent to American Plywood Association Grade BB Group I Exterior or similar. The two MSZ17-312 support beams should be 2" x 4" or 1" x 10" or better rough-cut lumber.
