What are VL Steel Sheet Piles?

Steel sheet piles have long been typical of summer campgrounds and RV sites that lack maintenance and capital improvements. Standard railings should consist of a top rail, midrail, toeboards, and posts. The vertical height from the top rail's upper surface to the floor, platform, runway, or ramp should be 39 to 45 inches. Each timber should have a smooth surface throughout the entire railing length. Railing members, crossbeams, and braces should be designed to support beams at their intersections and withstand the pressure of the wall fill and retained soil within the unit. Given these environmental constraints, Beyond Hope's investors developed a comprehensive site development plan, beginning with the complete reconstruction of the existing, dilapidated boat dock. The midrail should be located midway between the top rail and the floor, platform, runway, or ramp. During the high water season (VL 604K), the dock depth is approximately 6 to 7 feet. Bearing stresses between the bottom header and the stretchers due to base pressure tributary area loads should be checked.

 

Constructing a floating dock (VL 606A) or (VL 606A+0.5) that rises and falls with the lake level is problematic due to the significant level fluctuations of the sheet piles (VL 605+0.5). The end of the track should not extend beyond the end post unless this extension does not pose a protrusion hazard. Bearing stresses between the end post and beam at intermediate heights should be checked due to vertical friction and deadweight acting on the end post and beam. When the lake level drops (VL 606A+0.5), developers can consider scheduling initial earthwork construction without adversely affecting the lake's natural resources or requiring expensive sheet pile construction for environmental protection. VL606A+0.5 double-ended VL605A nails should not be used in the construction of the VL605K/VL606A guardrail system. 6. Minimum requirements for standard guardrails for various types of construction are as follows:

 

When sheet piles are driven to dewater VL 605A shoreline projects, both aquatic and bottom life can be adversely affected during the driving operation and when the land area where the piles were driven is subsequently drained for construction operations. For wood VL 605+0.5 guardrails, posts should be at least 2 x 4 lumber, spaced no more than 8 feet apart; top rails should be at least 2 x 4 lumber; and intermediate rails should be at least 1 x 6 VL 605K lumber. b. For pipe guardrails, posts and top and intermediate rails should have a nominal outside diameter of at least 1-1/2 inches, spaced no more than 8 feet apart.
