What are SKL and SKS Steel Sheet Piles?

Disc sheet piles, also known as cap sheet piles, have a smaller cross-sectional modulus but a strong interlocking capacity to withstand horizontal tensile forces, reaching up to 5500 kN/m. SKL sheet piles are suitable for large circular island cofferdams, where they withstand horizontal tensile forces. Straight-insert SKS steel sheet piles are very convenient to install. In some areas, disc sheet piles are also referred to as L-shaped or S-shaped sheet piles. Both L-shaped and S-shaped sheet piles have interlocking ends located on one side of the sheet pile wall. Compared to other sheet piles, disc sheet piles offer advantages such as a lighter cross-section, smaller wall footprint, consistent interlocking direction, and ease of installation. They are suitable for small-scale excavation projects, such as municipal projects.

Applications Under Water Level:

The calculated water levels for sheet pile wall design are divided into high water level, low water level, and extreme low water level. However, generally, only the low water level or extreme low water level are used for calculations. This is because the lower the water level, the greater the active earth pressure and residual water pressure, and the greater the adverse effects on the sheet pile wall.

When designing sheet piles as wave barriers, the design high water level represents the most unfavorable water level. However, this is not absolute, as the anchor position significantly influences the calculation of internal forces in the sheet piles.
