Omega steel sheet piles are reusable, so special attention should be paid to the inspection process. Furthermore, special attention should be paid to distinguishing differences in cross-sectional dimensions and steel sheet thickness between different models and specifications of Omega steel sheet piles. Due to their low pile body rigidity, Omega steel sheet piles are prone to deformation during transportation and stacking. Therefore, Omega steel sheet piles typically require straightening, particularly to ensure the straightness of the pile body and pile tail. Pile tail straightness is paramount for successful sheet pile driving, while pile tail blockage is the primary culprit for common problems such as difficulty driving, pile jamming, and pile body tilt. Therefore, it is believed that 70% of successful piling depends on straightening and 30% on driving. Only in this way can steel sheet pile construction proceed smoothly.
On-site testing typically uses a "lock tester" with a lock, cut from a pile of the same model, over two meters long. This "lock tester" can be easily lifted by two people and inserted into the lock to be tested for unlocking. Steel sheet pile designs must be checked individually using a "lock tester." The tester must be able to pass smoothly through the locks on both sides of the pile along its entire length. If this fails, the locks and pile body must be straightened. Straightening is typically performed using an oxyacetylene flame, hammering, and cooling with cold water until the lock tester can pass smoothly through the treated locks.
