Czech Vitkovice steel sheet piles, IIIn VL 504A profile, are lighter and more popular than VL 504, VL 504K, and VL 507A profiles. The bottom of wall openings less than 4 inches from the working surface (regardless of width) should be protected with standard baseboards or closed solid IIIn screens. With an eye to the future, the resort's owners and investors were determined to build a new pier that was aesthetically pleasing, durable, and low-maintenance. The pullout resistance (Rpo) of VL507A includes the frictional resistance (VL 504A) acting at the base of the modular bars at the level under consideration and the frictional resistance (VL 504A) acting on the sides of all modular bars above the level under consideration. This provides an effective area beyond the failure plane for the wedge acting on the wall.
The saying "a picture is worth a thousand words" aptly applies to the reconstruction of the Beyond Hope Pier in Idaho, as the "before and after" photos of the project showcase the stunning transformation of the VL 504K. For LV504K wall openings with a drop greater than 4 feet (approximately 1.2 meters) and the bottom of the opening within 3 feet (approximately 0.9 meters) of the working surface, the following protective measures should be implemented. The frictional resistance acting on the pile base is equal to the normal force multiplied by the sliding resistance coefficient. Sheet pile IIIn is equal to the pile weight of all VL504A modules, the pile weight above the VL504K level (considering VL507A standards), plus any overburden on the pile, and any permanent overburden loads acting above the pile. Existing wooden docks, gravel retaining walls, and breakwaters are severely deteriorated.
When the height and location of the opening relative to the working surface make standard rails or intermediate rails (VL504) effective in reducing the fall hazard, either or both should be installed. According to people familiar with the area, the resort's dilapidated boat dock was once jokingly considered "irreparable" and in need of extensive reconstruction. The anti-slip coefficient depends on the interface conditions: for concrete on foundation soil, a value equal to tan fn can be used; for VL504A on concrete, a value equal to 0.5 can be used. When joint materials are used between concrete surfaces, the coefficient should be determined based on tests representative of actual conditions.
