What are the Construction Procedures for Steel Sheet Piles?

Steel sheet piles are a common piece of engineering equipment. Today, we will briefly introduce the steel sheet pile usage process.

1. Construction Preparation

1) Material Inspection

New and old steel sheet piles must be inspected separately, focusing on the integrity of the interlocking joints, the degree of corrosion, and straightness. Deformed piles should be hydraulically straightened or repaired by fire.

2) Positioning and Laying Out

Reserve a 0.5m working surface along the design boundary, set measurement benchmarks, and install double-sided guide frames (H-beam or channel steel) to control verticality (deviation ≤ 0.5%).

2. Steel Sheet Piling Installation

1) Interlocking Joint Treatment

Before driving, apply grease or special water-stopping material to the interlocking joints to prevent leakage.

2) Driving Sequence

Preferably, use the "screen-type" driving method, closing the joints in stages from upstream to downstream. The first pile must be precisely positioned as a reference (calibrated with a theodolite every 1m).

3) Corner Closure

Use special-shaped piles or the axis adjustment method to address corners and prevent interlocking joint misalignment.

3. Bottom Sealing and Support

1) Bottom Sealing Construction

After the cofferdam is closed, dredging is carried out to the designed elevation. Stone slabs are then added and 1.5m thick C25 underwater concrete is poured (continuously using the conduit method).

2) Support Installation

After the bottom seal concrete reaches 50% strength, the perimeter purlins (H-beams) and internal supports are installed in layers, following the principle of "support first, then dewatering."

4. Steel Sheet Pile Retrieval

After the foundation pit is backfilled, the piles are reversed using a vibratory hammer. Deformed piles at the locking ends can be re-corrected and reused.
