What are Type IIIA Steel Sheet Piles?

They sought a solution using Type IIIA steel sheet piles. Ultimately, the anchor block cross-section had to be designed to account for stresses caused by the anchor rod and soil pressure. This specialized connector has the advantage over traditional precast corners or connectors in that, once formed, the pile cannot be easily altered.

Therefore, we designed a customized Type IIIA steel sheet pile, designated GP. This is a variation of the published catalog product. Similarly, when only bending stresses are considered, shear stresses are negligible. For temporary works, the curled scraps or connectors can be fixed in place before driving and burned after the pile is pulled, leaving a usable pile segment.

The SP-IIIA steel sheet pile features an open joint design, suitable for post-installation grouting. This pile is suitable for drainage projects, groundwater interception walls, and pollution control applications. The connectors or corners can also be used for other applications. For Omega 18 and Delta 13 steel sections, the anchor blocks are typically treated as continuous beams in the horizontal direction and cantilevers in the vertical direction. SP-3A sheet piles offer a commercially attractive solution for retaining walls and other applications due to their light weight, wide sections, and minimal joints. Brands include FSP, JFE, JFESP, SKSP, TSP, JFE, and JFESP. Specifications are 400x150x13.1.
