What are SN Steel Sheet Piles?

Lightweight steel sheet piles offer a wide range of retaining wall solutions, covering nearly all sheet pile applications. U-shaped pile pairs can also be connected using the specialized Omega 18 connector to create zigzag retaining walls. Sheet piles offer a wide range of section moduli per meter of wall width, from 500 to 8,700 cubic centimeters. This blurs the lines between hot-rolled and cold-formed sheet piles, leading to a growing crossover in applications. In this arrangement, pile pairs are arranged at 90 degrees to form deep walls with exceptionally high inertia and section modulus. This allows the most economical sheet pile type to be selected based on design requirements and intended construction methods.

The latest trend in sheet pile technology is the production of thinner and wider sheet piles. In addition to being structurally robust, these piles also offer a relatively high moment of inertia per pile, enabling them to be reused. ESC continuously refines existing designs to better meet customer needs and introduces new sheet pile series suitable for diverse applications. If the impact of Omega 18 connectors is considered during the design process, welding is necessary.

Sheet piles are a time-tested engineering type, familiar to both designers and builders. U-shaped sheet piles are widely used in permanent structures, temporary retaining works, and temporary cofferdams. The availability of SN-IA, SN-I, and SN-II sheet piles is welcome news for users, providing a wider range of sheet pile options for nearly all project types. The cross-section selection for these wall types must consider driveability criteria, and designers must ensure that each cross-section is connected using press-fit or welded connections to ensure shear forces are transferred through the interlocking elements along the neutral axis.

At the same time, improvements in steel quality have led to increasing sheet thicknesses for cold-rolled/formed sheet piles. These interlocking sections offer exceptionally high tensile strength and are available in grades SN-IA, SN-I, SN-II, SN-IIU, SN-IIIU, SN-V, and SN-VU.

We are always able to customize profiles to meet specific project requirements. Section modulus per meter of pile wall width ranges from 529 cubic centimeters to 3820 cubic centimeters. We offer a virtually unlimited selection of profiles, such as SN-IIU, SN-IIIU, SN-V, and SN-VU.
