Steel sheet piles have been used worldwide for over 100 years. Due to differences in steel grades across countries, there are many types of steel used for sheet piles. With European integration, steel grade classifications have become more standardized. In Europe, the most commonly used steels for cold-rolled steel sheet piles are S235 and S275, while S355GP, S390GP, and S430GP are more common. In China, Q235B and Q345B are the most widely used. In Japan, SY295 and SY390 are the most common.

For pipe piles, API 5L and EN10219 standards cover more than 80% of steel grades. The most commonly used steels in the EN10219 standard are S355, S420MH, and S460MH. In the API 5L standard, steel grades B, X52, X56, X60, X65, X70, and even X80 can be used for steel pipe piles.
